Still You Carry Me
from the new record Love For You
“Steven Sedalia is a singer-songwriter forging a folk fusion sound melting mystical ambience with acoustic anthems. Unique for his vamping refrains, the reverent and memorable chants inspire a sing-along fervor in live audiences. Themes of soul exploration and mythical adventure set the tone for wide-eyed love songs edging toward devotionals. Sedalia's bright voice and grounding guitar give foundation to an emotionally nourishing mixture of sound and poetry, culminating in an ecstatic celebration of universal love.
His recent EP Love For You, is a collection of love songs. Steven writes “I’ve always written love songs, but the tracks I’ve typically chosen for albums have explored themes like the origins of creation, soul healing, devotion, and hero’s journey archetypes and lessons. This time I wanted to build a project to explore the variety of love songs. Love can come in different forms: romance, gratitude, forgiveness, devotion, etc. And we know love can be like a rollercoaster, full of ups and downs and cycles back around. This album is a reflection of that diversity and motion. Some victories on top of the world, some pain that feels tragic and confusing, and some deepening connection to the source of love that is beyond any wavering.” Themes and styles span from young love, freedom, traveling tunes and idealistic catchy love songs, to offerings of commitment, forgiveness, and songs of loving reverence for a universal creator.
Being raised in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina has instilled in Sedalia a deep reverence for the land and its creator that is emergent in his songs. Having lived for years on tropical farm in Hawai‘i, the praise has multiplied as the musical stories mix moods of adventure, romance, wonder, gratitude, joy of abundance, and exploration of love and the soul.
Similar to the artists he has played alongside, Xavier Rudd, Mike Love, Satsang, Paul Izak, and others; Sedalia carves out his own niche in the roots revival music genres. The live performance is a mixture of folk rock and devotional praise with a journey through exaltation and introspection.
